That Song In My Head

I’ve been dreaming of new bedding for a while now. There’s nothing wrong with what I have, it just feels rather loud and overwhelming for my small bedroom.  I’m pleased with how the rest of the room has come along; I’ve hung pictures and mirrors on the walls, and created a nightstand using stacked vintage suitcases topped with a vintage mirror.  I like to think of my room as cosy with character. However, since I’ve added more decor, I’ve realised the bedding needs to be dialled back a bit.
Pictured above is a set for sale on Fab.com that I shall, sadly, never own by Divine Marquise illustrated by Virginie Broquet, as it’s made for people with larger disposable incomes than I. But, this is definitely the direction I’d like to go in (I also adore that upon closer inspection, you’ll see these classical French images actually capture lovers in some rather amorous situations - a bit of bedroom appropriate cheekiness!).  Looking forward to resting my head on some similar bedding; until then, one can dream!

And now for some Saturday morning cartoons! A bit of ‘Simon’s Cat’ to get your Saturday off to a good start (hopefully you’re not being disturbed by a little fur ball as is the case above)!

I bought these beauties from & Other Stories at the weekend.  I have a feeling I’ll be hitting the pavement in these on many occasions.  Finally a pair of pumps with the perfect heel height and just enough unique touches to stand out from the crowd.

Let's Show the World that Fashion is Serious Business

And now for a bit of self-justification. Some words on the fashion industry, beautifully put by Imran Amed, Editor, The Business of Fashion:

the magic of the fashion industry was simply fascinating to me. Where else could one find such dedicated, creative and hard-working people with a shared passion for their work? What other industry creates products that incite such passion? And which industry accepts and celebrates a cast of characters as colourful, diverse and entertaining as ours?

The short answer? No other industry.

Unfortunately, fashion is portrayed in much of the mainstream media as a superficial industry composed of champagne-swilling flakes who have nothing better to do than to gossip and snicker. This is the result of years of so-called ‘reality’ television programmes and endless articles in the news media that focus on the industry’s surface gloss, rather than the hard work and passion that precious few insiders actually get to see.

Globally, fashion is a $1.5 trillion dollar industry. It employs millions of people. And while those of us working in fashion may not be changing the world, we do make important contributions to the global economy and impact the daily lives of billions of people around the world…

Yup, I’m part of that and I’m proud.

Amen, sistah friend! The pejorative use of the word ‘gay’ has always bothered me. Let’s get more creative with our adjectives, people!

I had the pleasure of accompanying a dear friend at the ‘David Bowie Is’ exhibition at the V&A this Friday. This retrospective enables you to walk through Mr. Bowie’s journey from a Brixton-born baby all the way to present day. The exhibit is peppered with handwritten lyrics, original set designs, and artwork by the extraordinary artist. I particularly enjoyed all of the original costumes - such imagination and storytelling! I’ve developed an immense amount of admiration and respect for David Bowie as a result of this experience. Accompanied by a soundtrack of his hits, as well as audio clips by David himself and others, this exhibit is a multi-sensory experience that is not to be missed.
